Real World Heroics: Being An Awesome Brother

Gamestop, that place where once $50.00 games sell for $0.50, has brought about the best story of the day. Good things happening in the most unlikely of places. To Gamestops credit, most of its employees have been friendly and helpful to me in the past, but I digress.

Two brothers, one 16ish and the other 11ish, entered Gamestop looking for a game and a controller. Right from the get go the story is heart warming, with the older brother having the younger sibling choose both the game and the controller. The younger brother insisted that the game have a female protagonist, which I get 100%, and so the brothers sought help from a female Gamestop employee. The decided upon game was Mirrors Edge, one of the most underrated games. To match, the young boy also wanted a "girl color controller". Purple was the choice.

Feel good stuff huh? That isn't the end of the story though. Coming into the store was the father, manly man that I am sure he thinks he is, proceeded to be the largest ass of all the assholes in the land. Upon seeing the controller and game choice that his young child had made, he ordered the child to choose a more manly game and controller. The child resisted the order some and the father then brought out the classic, i'll hurt you, parenting mechanic that the most loathsome of all parents love to use. Now for the heroics. The big brother steps in and tells the father "It's my money, it's my gift to him, if it's what he wants I'm getting it for him, and if your going to hit anyone for it, it's going to be me." How fucking brave is that? You know with a father that is willing to publicly threaten to beat a small child that he wouldn't be afraid to smack a teenager in public or do worse in private. This big brother deserves a medal and a better father.

The story ends with the father storming out of Gamestop, the kids getting what they wanted, and the helpful Gamestop employee giving a pep talk to the young boy. My final thoughts, rock the purple kid and remember that there will be a day (happy 18th) when the law will not only allow you to tell him to shove his opinion but it encourages it. Amurrrricaaaa!
